Museo de Bellas Artes en la Plaza del Potro

The Museum of Fine Arts of Cordoba has a large number of works by different local artists, with works of great importance ranging from the fourteenth century to the present. To origin of the pieces that are exposed have been in their great majority cessions of Cordoban convents, and donations of different foundations.

The space shared by the Museum of Fine Arts along with that of Julio Romero de Torres was the Hospital de la Caridad. This hospital was built by the Catholic Kings in the fifteenth century. The building is located in the popular Potro Square, it has a typical yards of Cordoba, with orange trees and a fountain in the center.

On the ground floor of the building you can see the works of Cordoban art of the eighteenth and nineteenth century, with different works by Rafael Romero Barros (father of Julio Romero de Torres), Antonio Palominos or Pedro Duque Cornejo.

The room dedicated to 20th century art, we can see works by Rafael Botí and the Romero de Torres brothers. The most important works in this room are those made by Mateo Inurria Lainosa, a famous artist who was highly recognized.

On the second floor there is a room dedicated to drawings and prints. The most prominent authors are Pedro de Campaña, José Ribera or Antonio del Castillo. In these works you can see the different techniques used to make different paintings.

The other rooms of the museum are dedicated to the Medieval, Renaissance and Mannerist art of Cordoban artists. Some of the outstanding authors of the time are Alejo Fernández, Pedro de Córdoba, Baltasar del Águila or Pedro Romana among others.

Times and entry price

Admission is free for all EU citizens, and for visitors from other countries the price is 1.5 Euros. The opening hours are as follows:

From July 1 to August 31

  • From Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Mondays closed, except if they are the eve of a holiday.

From September 1 to June 30

  • From Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Sundays and holidays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
