The Rafael Botti Art Center is located very close to the Mesquita, on Calle Manríquez nº 5. It is a modern exhibition hall with several floors that exhibit various works. On the first floor, the main works of the outstanding Córdoba painter of the last century, Rafael Botti, are exhibited.
The Provincial Council of Cordoba and the Rafael Botti Provincial Foundation of Plastic Arts promote this exhibition center, which is free of charge and has been open only for a short time since its inauguration in 2015.
In this museum, where you can see works of high quality, different Raphael Botti Plastic Arts Biennales are held, with the participation of many well-known artists.
Because of its location in the main tourist area of the city, right next to the mosque, and its openness, this is one of the museums I recommend you visit during your stay in Cordoba. Note that it is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 20:30 and on Sundays only in the morning.
This painter from Córdoba was born in this century, in 1900. The son of a musician from Alicante, he studied painting with Julio Romero de Torres, modelling with Victoriano Chicot and art history with Ricardo Agrazote. He spent his formative years at the city’s School of Applied Arts, whose director at the time was Mateo Inuria.
Some of his classmates were Antonio Rodriguez Luna, Angel Lopez Obreiro, Rafael Romero de Torres, Octavio Nogales and others. It is a little known fact that Rafael also studied music at the Eduardo Lucena Higher Conservatory of Music.
As a young man he moved to Madrid to continue his education, and his first exhibition of paintings was in Córdoba, at the Círculo de la Amistad. As a painter, he stood out for his personal style. Rafael Botti was an artist who resisted following the different styles of the time.
